After two days of unrest and uncertainty, the military in Burkina Faso has announced it has taken over the reigns of power.
A group of soldiers calling themselves the Patriotic Movement for Safeguarding and Restoration (MPSR) said they are in charge of the West African country after seizing power from the elected president Roch Marc Christian Kabore.
The army announced its coup in a message read on national television by a group of soldiers representing the junta. The statement read by Capt. Sidsori Kader Ouaedraogo named Lieutenant-Colonel Sandaogo Paul Henri Damiba as the president of the movement and junta leader.

It further announced the suspension of the Constitution, the dissolution of the government and the National Assembly, as well as the closure of land and air borders. It also imposed a nationwide curfew from 9 pm to 5 am. throughout the national territory.
