Magistrate Aiah Mark Ngegba of Court No. 1 at the Pademba Road Magistrate Court, on Wednesday 15th November 2023, remanded a Nigerian man Chris Emmanuel at the Male Correctional Centre for unlawful possession of illegal drugs – cocaine and kush.
The accused stood before the court on three count charges – unlawful possession of Methamphetamine, unlawful possession of heroine and unlawful possession of kush, which is a Cannabis based drug that is at the center of an ongoing drug abuse ‘epidemic’ in the country.
The Particulars of Offence states that on Friday 13th October, 2023 at Baoma Goderich, Chris Emmanuel was found in possession of Methamphetamine, a Class A controlling drug at a weight of 60.50 grams; five tablets of heroin, another manipulative drug; and 15.8 grams of Kush, all without lawful authority.
The charges were read to the accused in court.
However, no plea was taken.
Defense Counsel, Y K T Mansaray, applied for bail but the magistrate rejected the application.
The prosecution requested for a date to bring forward witnesses who would provide the court with more information about the case.
Magistrate Ngegba adjourned the matter to the 22nd of November, 2023 for further hearing.
