It’s over seven months since Col. Mamady Doumbouya led a group of soldiers to oust Alpha Conde. While regional and international governments condemned the coup, many Guineans took to the streets to celebrate it.
Conde, first elected in 2010, had been accused of displaying undemocratic tendences, especially with his decision to change the constitution to allow him run for a third term.
The civil society and almost all opposition political parties in Guinea therefore hailed the coup.
