Dalton Turay, Youth President of based Harvest Cathedral in Cline Town, Freetown, has spoken out against examination malpractice, citing its negative implication on the development of a nation.

Mr Turay said during a Youth Conference organized by the church that students should embrace the process of reading and understanding their educational courses, which he believes could prepare them well for higher learning opportunities, rather than relying on cheating for cheating for success. He was speaking on a topic titled ‘Jumping ahead of God, which delved on the consequence of unprofessionalism in the workforce of Sierra Leone.

The conference was convened on the theme: “Manifesting the Spirit of Excellence – Daniel 6:3”, and it brought together over 100 youths within the Sierra Leonean capital, with the sole aim of impacting their attitude towards attaining professionalism.

The conference was organized by the Church’s Youth Ministry. It’s the inaugural edition of what the church says is intended to be an annual event, with the objective of giving young people the necessary knowledge to pursue excellence, instead of mediocrity, in their everyday life.

The program’s goal is to foster God’s love in the minds of young people, said Turay.

In his presentation, he highlighted key sectors of societies where unprofessionalism endangers the future of a nation. Engineers, for instance, he noted, could endanger lives by building substandard structures. Ans nurses, he went on, could put lives at risk while taking care of the health of people.

Khadison Duwai, Gospel Minister and Founder of Overtone Sierra Leone, which discovers, inspires, mentors and invests in Christian arts and entertainment, was one of the speakers at the event. He said that procrastination, forming excuses and tardiness, were a youthful and national bottlenecks, calling on youths to eliminate such attitude to attain excellence.

Mr Duwai, who is also a civil servant, spoke on the importance of living right, which he said attracts excellence and great things.

Lucy Mary Kargbo, a participant, learnt about the conference through a post a friend of hers made via social media, for which she said she was grateful. She told ManoReporters that she would make sure to derived maximum benefit from the knowledge she gained from the sessions with others.

“I intend to manifest in my life and God’s work through every possible means,” she asserted.

Moses Bundukar, who described himself as lover of youth conferences, vowed to be generous with the teachings he got from the event by sharing with other youths he engages with.
