Nine people have been confirmed dead and several others said to be in critical condition after a truck loaded with granite rocks hit an 18-seater passenger vehicle that was travelling between Bo City and Sahn Malen.
The truck reportedly lost control and ran into the passenger vehicle, killing the nine people on the spot and injuring many other, accordingto eyewitness accounts.
Alhaji Mohamed Bawoh, Chairman of the Motor Drivers Union in Malen, witnessed the incident.
He told ManoReporters that the chance of survival of the other passengers who were injured is very slim, given the severity of their injuries.
“All those who were in the front seats of the vehicle, including the driver, lost their lives,” he said in a telephone interview.
He added that the remains of the dead and injured were immediately taken to the government hospital in Bo by personnel of the Sierra Leone Police based in Koribondo.
The police confirmed the incident.
Michael Tommy, Officer Commanding Sahn Malen Police station, told ManoReporters that all those who lost their lives were residents of Sahn Malen.
The entire Sahn Malen is in complete sadness and anxiety, with family members of victims weeping as residents flock to the main car park in search of information about their loved ones.
