President Julius Maada Bio has taken a slight lead with the first set of results released by the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL) in the Saturday June 24, 2023 presidential elections.
The incumbent got 1, 067, 666 votes, followed closely behind by his main challengers, Dr Samura Kamara of the All People Congress (APC) with 793,751.
ECSL chairman and chief electoral commissioner, Mohamed Konneh, made the announcement at a press briefing at the Freetown International Conference Center.
Mr Konneh said that the results released today represented 60 percent of votes tallied in each of the 16 districts of the country.
He added that the final results is expected to be announced within the next 48 hours.
