The police in the northern district of Makeni say they have detained two young men on suspicion of armed robbery.

The suspects who according to the police are both students of the University of Makeni studying law, were arrested following a complaint by their alleged victim.

In a statement, police spokesman Inspector Abdurahman Sankoh of the Northwest Region said the alleged victim, Adama Mariana Mansaray, walked into a police station on Wednesday, February 16 and reported that she had been assaulted and robbed by people who had pistol and knives.

According to the statement, Ms Mansaray named Tamba Allison Koroma and Raymond Felix Bangura, both of whom are said to be resident of No. 12 Mitchell Street in the New York area of Makeni.

The alleged victim, in her complaint, also reportedly claimed she had general body pain.

“Upon receipt of the report, suspects Tamba Allison Koroma and Raymond Felix Bangura were arrested on diverse time on the 16th February 2022,” the police statement says, adding: “On Thursday 17th February 2022 search was conducted by virtue of search warrant on the premises of suspects.”

According to the police, investigators recovered a toy pistol, two kitchen knives, two scissors, a yellow rope, and the sum of eight million, seven hundred and nineteen thousand leones (Le8,719,000) on the suspects during their search.

Tamba Allison Koroma is said to be in year one, while his co-accused Raymond Felix Bangura is in year three, according to the police.

Inspector Sankoh told ManoReporters that the suspects were still in detention pending ongoing investigations.

“The investigation is fresh yet,” he noted in response to a request for clarifications. He however wouldn’t comment on how long they intend to hold the suspects before charging them.
